Burst Into Books' Youth Book Clubs

6 m0s to 3 yrs

Enjoy an interactive storytime with your child that includes early literacy fun with books, songs, fingerplays and body movement. Each storytime session will have a guest that is connected to literacy too.

4 to 7 years

Children engage in group discussion about focus book of the month. Instructor focuses on main components of the text to help children develop their comprehension skills. Each session includes an activity that allows participants to make connections within the text and the real world. A guest who is connected to literacy is present at each book club session as well.

8 to 10 years

Children participate in group discussions and debates about the focus book of the month. Instructor challenges participants to make connections to previous text and real life experiences. Extension activities which include writing, reader’s theater and art expression are incorporated in the book session to help children demonstrate their understanding of the text. Also, there is an guest who is connected to literacy present at each book club session too.

11 to 14 years

Pre-teens are introduced to a variety of genres for each of their focus books for each book club sessions. Through group discourse, higher level questioning and  enrichment activities participants deepen their understanding of the text. Also, the group uses various tools such as blogging, video, writing and public speaking to communicate how lessons can be applied to their everyday lives. A guest who is connected to literacy is present at each book club session too.

High School

Teens are introduced to a variety of genres for their focus books. Through debates, group discussions, and interactive activities participants deepen their understanding of the text. Furthermore, there will be field trips to connect to the literature that is covered on the group. Technology is utilized in the group for participants to see how they can use platforms such as social media to make connections to the text. A guest who is connected to literacy is present at each book club.
